Bentley tapes Ryman show for TV

Thursday, May 20, 2010 – Dierks Bentley's Up on the Ridge tour wraps this Saturday with a sold out crowd at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The concert will feature special guests including the Punch Brothers and Del McCoury and will be filmed for an upcoming television special.

Bentley hit 24 cities in the last 30 days, selling out across the country as he previewed music from his bluegrass-influenced " Up on the Ridge" disc out June 8. Each night Bentley was flanked on stage by the acoustic musicianship of his backing band the Travelin' McCourys, while Lost Highway's Hayes Carll opened the show.

"I never want this tour to end...so many amazing nights," said Bentley. "I'm not sure what memory I will hold closest...playing that first night in Portland, seeing New York City going absolutely nuts over bluegrass music or getting to play at the Ryman this weekend with some of my best friends and biggest musical influences. It has been a once-in-a-career type of tour."

The new disc features Bentley working with artists ranging from Alison Krauss and Miranda Lambert to Tim O'Brien and Sam Bush.

CD review - Black Dierks Bentley seems intent on expanding his musical boundaries, but he may have overreached too much in eschewing where he came from. That most evident by the dominating textured beats. Producer Ross Copperman and Bentley seem hell bent on injecting odd meters and sounds, sharp detours from past efforts. Unfortunately, the atmospheric beats muddy up the vocal delivery on "Freedom," a song that stretches far too long at almost four minutes. Bentley also channels U2 with its ...
CD review - Riser Change was in store for Dierks Bentley when it came to recording his seventh album, "Riser." On the personal front, he lost his father and added to his family, clearly affecting the subject matter of his latest. On the musical front, he traded long-time producer Brett Beavers, producer of every disc except "Up on the Ridge," for Ross Copperman, who has enjoyed more success as a writer, including several previous tracks for Bentley. Bentley embraces current trends in country ...
