James Otto shakes it on new CD

Tuesday, July 27, 2010 – James Otto will bring his soulful country music to "Shake What God Gave Ya," his new disc coming out Sept. 14.

"Musically I'd say I'm the love child between Ronnie Milsap and Barry White," joked Otto. "This sexy, sultry, soulful sound makes you wanna move and dance. And that is exactly what I want fans to do while listening to this album, 'Shake What God Gave Ya'."

Recorded in Nashville and co-produced with Paul Worley (Big & Rich, Lady Antebellum, The Dixie Chicks), Otto penned 11 of the 12 tracks including the current Top 25 hit country single Groovy Little Summer Song and the duet Good Things Gone Bad, featuring Milsap.

The disc is the follow-up to his 2008 release "Sunset Man," which landed at number 3 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart and delivered Just Got Started Lovin' You, which was the year's most played single at country radio and Billboard's number 1 Hot Country Song. Last year, Otto won an ACM and CMA Award in the Song of the Year category as a co-writer for In Color, the Jamey Johnson-sung song that also earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Country Song).

Songs on the CD are:

1. Are Ya With Me
2. Groovy Little Summer Song
3. Lover Man
4. Soldiers & Jesus
5. Love Don't Cost A Thing
6. Sun Comes Round Again
7. Shake What God Gave Ya
8. It's A Good Time (For A Good Time)
9. Just Like Sunshine
10. Let's Just Let Go
11. She Comes To Me
12. Good Things Gone Bad featuring Ronnie Milsap

Otto is on the road headlining solo dates and opening for Toby Keith and Trace Adkins on the American Ride Tour.

CD review - Shake What God Gave Ya The press release for James Otto's new album ends with a telling quote from Otto: "As much as there's all these different fractures of country music these days..." Otto has proven himself popular with the current crop of country music fans, and this CD should prove to be a popular addition. Otto is trying to position himself as the new king of country soul, whatever that may be. The "country soul" sound isn't new - Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap (who sings with ...
CD review - Sunset Man James Otto is a member of Muzik Mafia, and his second album reflects the eclectic influences of his troupe. The Washington State native combines country, rock, blues and soul on the 11 songs. He does everything from rockin' tunes about partying, "Ain't Gonna Stop," to the first single, the mid-tempo love song, "Just Got Started Lovin' You." Otto is also in full-party mode with the catchy tongue-in-cheek "Drink and Dial" and the R&B influenced ...
"Days of Our Lives" is not based on the long-running soap opera, but some of the lyrics herein are almost as trite as the long-lost-evil-twin-sibling plotline. There's the requisite nostalgia for the young and restless days of "Misspent Youth," the wrestling with passions on "Miss Temptation" and "Lowdown on the High Life." "She Knows" is a retread of Garth's "If Tomorrow Never Comes" that is neither bold nor beautiful, and "The Ball" channels another Brooks ballad ("Unanswered Prayers. ...
