Faith Hill, the great great prognosticator, returns

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 – Faith Hill proved herself a skilled NFL prognosticator last year, and she is back again for the season starting Sunday.

Hill, the musical voice of NBC's Sunday Night Football, will be picking games during the NFL season along with sports writers from The Tennessean. Their picks will appear every Thursday in the newspaper. Fans can also pick games through an online contest to see if they can outperform Hill, with one winner getting a VIP Fan Experience at the Dec. 19 Tennessee Titans game.

"We wanted to invite Faith back because she did so well last year," said Sports Editor Larry Taft. "And since most of our writers weren't able to out-pick her, we thought we'd give readers a chance."

Last year, Hill went 171-86, better than all current sports reporters. This year, she'll go against Tennessean staffers Jim Wyatt, David Climer, Joe Biddle, and John Glennon.

"No doubt in my mind that Tennessee's football fans will be tougher than the experts," said Hill. "Bring it on - and go Titans."

Fans can try their skill at picking NFL games by going to the Titans contest during the season. One winner will attend the Dec. 19 game against the Houston Texans, winning 4 club-level tickets, an on-field visit for 2, a visit to the press box, a signed Titans jersey and commemorative 10th anniversary Titans book.

Hill will again be featured every Sunday night on the opening of NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast.

CD reviews for Faith Hill

CD review - Joy to the World Faith Hill's first Christmas album is an uptown affair, rather than any down home celebration. Making this point from the very outset, the opening title cut features a full adult choir and orchestra. Furthermore, Hill is dressed for the ball in a beautiful red gown on the disc's front cover. The first time Hill steers away from overly philharmonic-ready material, she heads straight for swing town with horns a plenty on both Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town. and Holly Jolly Christmas. ...
CD review - The Hits Finally, after 14 years in the recording business and more than 30 charting songs, Faith Hill released a greatest hits plus package. The songs go all the way from "Wild One" and "Piece of My Heart," her first two singles ever from 1993 and 1994 with both going number one up to "Mississippi Girl" from 2005 plus a few new songs. Hill had more of a country vibe starting out, but grew progressively pop (the new and catchy, but not very country "Red Umbrella"). ...
CD review - Fireflies Faith Hill stayed so far from her country roots with 2003's "Cries" that she laid an egg on country radio. The album was so pop that there was nothing for radio to play. Hill did not make the same mistake twice as there is a significant amount of country instrumentation starting with the Dan Dugmore banjo and Stuart Duncan mandolin on the lead off "Sunshine and Summertime." The autobiographical and well delivered hit single, "Mississippi Girl," written in part by John Rich, who had a hand in 3 of ...
