Parton's musical opens in Nashville

Thursday, September 16, 2010 – The world premiere of Dolly Parton's "9 to 5: The Musical" tour will be in Nashville Sept. 21-26.

"American Idol" finalist Diana DeGarmo was cast in the role of Doralee Rhodes, made famous by Parton.

Parton wrote 16 songs for the Broadway show, earning a Tony nomination. Early in his career, director /choreographer and Tony nominee, Jeff Calhoun found himself in the chorus of the film, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" starring Parton.

The tour features a new cast, along with new direction, choreography and design than what was presented on Broadway last year. After the Nashville run, the musical is expected to tour for two years to major cities nationwide.

The musical features three female co-workers who are pushed to their boiling point by their boss. The trio hatches a plan to get even with their sexist, egotistical supervisor that quickly spins out of control.

This country star has given us a decidedly traditional country album. "Driven," for example, incorporates plenty of fiddle and ...
CD review - A Holly Dolly Christmas A Dolly Parton Christmas album seems like a natural, as Parton oftentimes comes off like a child inside an adult's body. Parton was able to rope both famous Cyruses (Miley and Billy Ray) as well Jimmy Fallon, Willie Nelson and Michael Bublé to sing with her. Perhaps, best of all, Parton had a hand in writing half of these dozen songs. Parton sounds great throughout, and into her 70s, her voice has lost none of its power. Sonically, Parton also isn't shy about infusing ...
