Jesse Dayton visits Texas dance halls

Wednesday, October 20, 2010 – Look for a new Jesse Dayton CD - a traditional Texas country music affair - just before the holidays.

Dayton said via email, "The new record is almost on its way to the printers. "One For The Dance Halls" will be available in stores and online the week of Christmas, on Dec. 21st. While shooting the movie I've been working on all summer on our off days, "The Sinner," we went into the studio with nothing more in mind than making a true Texas dance hall record."

Dayton, an Austin artist, said his records "have always varied musically...some country...some Cajun...some Latin...some rockabilly rave ups...but after playing my residency show at the Broken Spoke (where I usually play every Thursday when I'm not traveling) I realized I needed to make a top to bottom country record with songs that would stand up on two-step floors anywhere, anytime, any place."

"This new record has been my baby for the last two months. I've surrounded myself with great songwriters, great players, and we even have a new duet song on the record with my singing partner Brennen Leigh. Can't wait for y'all to hear it!!!"

Dayton also been busy producing a new Michael Des Barres soul record, the soundtrack for "The Sinner" and putting together a collection of more modern swamp pop songs that will be on his next disc.

CD reviews for Jesse Dayton

CD review - Mixtape Vol. 1 Texas native Jesse Dayton has had the kind of career that seems as though it was conceived by a Hollywood screenwriter for a country music film that absolutely no one would believe was based in reality. Consider that Dayton has sessioned with legends like Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, performed with Lucinda Williams, Glen Campbell and John Doe, and contributed soundtrack music to Rob Zombie's "The Devil's Reject" and "Halloween II. ...
CD review - The Revealer With "The Revealer," Austin-based singer/songwriter Jesse Dayton displays his passion for classic country, roots rock and blues. The country influence is best demonstrated on "Possum Ran Over My Grave" in which he reminisces about being first disappointed by his idol ("I remember the night that he didn't show/So we shoved his old 8-track in our truck radio") before ultimately being inspired by George Jones ("Couple years later he came back through town/Man ...
CD review - Jesse Sings Kinky Austin-based Jesse Dayton focuses on Kinky Friedman's more serious work in this tribute to the legendary singer/songwriter, mystery novelist and politician. On several tracks, Dayton gives an up-tempo treatment to somber tunes, such as Rapid City South Dakota, the story of a young man skipping town on his pregnant girlfriend ("There's a doctor in Chicago, I know she'll be all right/He told himself as he stared into the night"), and Nashville Casualty and Life, the tale of ...
