Randy Travis added to MerleFest

Monday, November 8, 2010 – Randy Travis was added to the lineup of artists performing at MerleFest 2011, it was announced Monday. The Grammy-winning singer - who, like fellow Grammy winner Doc Watson, is a North Carolina native - has long been a favorite of the festival's host.

Watson requested that an invitation be extended to Travis to perform at MerleFest. MerleFest 2011 will celebrate its 24th year from April 28 - May 1, 2011.

This addition to MerleFest 2011's lineup comes just as the box office prepares to open for ticket sales on Tuesday, Nov. at 2 p.m. eastern. Ticket purchases can be made on the web at www.merlefest.org or by calling 1-800-343-7857.

Beginning this year, fans who purchase tickets online now also have an e-ticket option. An early bird ticket discount is available through March 13, 2011.

MerleFest was founded in 1988 in memory of Eddy Merle Watson as a fundraiser for Wilkes Community College Endowment Corp. The event is held on the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, N.C.

CD review - Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am Randy Travis hasn't had it easy in recent years with abuse, arrests and this past summer, a major health issue of a stroke. But one thing that hasn't changed is the ease with which the North Carolina native, credited with spearheading the Neo Traditionalist movement 25 years ago, tackles traditional material. That's what this disc is about - Travis doing his take on songs that influenced him. From the sounds of it, Travis had a lot of good music kicking around the house, especially Merle Haggard. ...
CD review - Anniversary Celebration When Randy Travis released "A Few Ole Country Boys" in 1990, it was plain to see the message of his duet with (and ode to) the legendary George Jones hit close to home. Just a few years removed from his stint as a cook at Music City bar The Nashville Palace, Travis' delivery of lyrics such as "Not too many years ago/When dreams weren't comin' true/I'd reach for inspiration/Sometimes it would be you" carried heavy-hitting meaning by the budding star. ...
