Swift sets another record for sales
Tuesday, November 9, 2010
– Taylor Swift set a record with the release of "Speak Now" - the greatest percent of all album sales in the week of release. At 18 percent of all sales - Swift sold 1,047,000 units - she beat N Sync's "No Strings Attached," which sold a record 2.4 million units in March 20000, good for 15.3 percent.
The only other country discs in the top 20 were Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" with 7.4 percent on sales of 481,000 and Garth Brooks' "Double Live," which had a 6.3 percent share.
Billboard reported that 10 albums had more unit sales than Swift. Eminem had 3 releases in the top 21 on the Nielsen SoundScan chart.
Fewer CDs are being sold every year, so when an artist has a large number of sales, as Swift did, her sales percentage of total sales will tend to be high.
