Universal inks Charlie Pate

Friday, April 20, 2007 – Charlie Pate, a native Nashvillian, signed a record deal with Universal. He is working with producers Frank Liddell and Mike Wrucke, who have worked with Miranda Lambert.

"I play country music, but not what you think," said Pate on his myspace page. "I want to make music that people will still be listening to 20 years from now, not just something for people to listen to in their cars. I plan to do that by doing my best to make records that have good songs, good singing and good picking."

Wrucke said Pate has recorded songs as part of a development deal.

Pate, who is in his early 20s, cites Ray Price, Flatt & Scruggs and Webb Pierce as influences. He also signed a songwriting deal with Disney Publishing.
