Sugarland returns to the stage

Thursday, August 18, 2011 – Sugarland returned to the stage on Thursday in New Mexico for the first time since Saturday's tragic accident in Indianapolis, which killed five people.

Lead singer Jennifer Nettles came out with fellow member Kristian Bush prior to the start of the regular concert. An emotional Nettles prefaced a moment by silence by saying she was "sure that all of you by now are aware" of the accident.

Following a few moments of silent of the wounded and "the beautiful lives that were lost," Bush started strumming an acoustic guitar with Nettles singing Love from their disc "Love on the Inside." Their road crew of about 80 people joined them on stage.

Following the performance, Nettles said, "We know Albuquerque that you guys came to see a show Obviously, in the loss of our set and our instruments and our equipment, this Incredible Machine looks very different right now. ...We are going to try our best to put on our professional faces...and celebrate with a moment with you the joy and the healing power of music."

The accident occurred prior to Sugarland taking the stage when a big gust of wind toppled the entire stage with the steel structure going into the crowd. Sugarland canceled a Sunday show in Iowa. The band returned to the stage in New Mexico with very simple staging. A report said they had just received their instruments that afternoon.

A video of the comments and performance is available.

CD review - BIGGER, Louder, Live It almost goes without saying that in today's fickle music world you have to constantly be atop your game, generating new content lest your listeners move on to the next selection in their Spotify shuffle. Thus, artists can't be content with dropping a new album every year or two and resting on their past accomplishments; now they've got to churn out EP's, live recordings and more to keep their audience satiated and satisfied. Realizing this truth, country duo Sugarland fights ...
CD review - Bigger Sugarland is back with "Bigger," its first studio album in nearly a decade. And its arrival says more about branding, than anything else. Although his voice is heard often enough on this album to make his presence felt, it's still difficult to get away from seeing Kristian Bush in the Oates to Hall or Ridgeley to Michael role in this duo. Jennifer Nettles is the act's primary focus. However, Nettles plays theaters on tour, while Sugarland fills stadiums, making it a commercial no-brainer. ...
CD review - The Incredible Machine "The Incredible Machine" is a rather unfortunate title for Sugarland's latest full-length. Listening to Find The Beat Again, for example, makes it sound as though vocalist Jennifer Nettles wants to be Deborah Harry-fronting-Katrina & the Waves rather than, say, a latter-day Loretta Lynn. With its handclap rhythm and shouted "Hey, Hey" on the chorus, this track - along with many others - finds Sugarland firmly entrenched in a predictable pop music device. ...
