Bentley surprises military family

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 – Dierks Bentley teamed up with The Ellen DeGeneres Show today to surprise a military family with $50,000 to help with their financial struggles.

Sgt. Chad Sparks was actively serving when he lost a finger in a freak injury aboard his tank and was forced to return home to care for his injury. He and his wife tried to make ends meet by selling their furniture, appliances and other personal items on Craigslist to help support their one-year-old daughter as Sparks faces redeployment to Afghanistan. He previously served there for six months. He does not know when he will return.

Bentley had a surprise in store for the family. He presented them an oversized check for $50,000, eliciting tears and hugs from the couple.

Bentley joined the Believe in Heroes effort, a Wounded Warrior Project initiative last fall, aiming to support and honor wounded veterans.

Unfortunately, the atmospheric beats muddy up the vocal delivery on "Freedom," a song that stretches far too long at almost four minutes. Bentley also channels U2 with its ...
CD review - Riser Change was in store for Dierks Bentley when it came to recording his seventh album, "Riser." On the personal front, he lost his father and added to his family, clearly affecting the subject matter of his latest. On the musical front, he traded long-time producer Brett Beavers, producer of every disc except "Up on the Ridge," for Ross Copperman, who has enjoyed more success as a writer, including several previous tracks for Bentley. Bentley embraces current trends in country ...
