Chely Wright launches benefit auction

Wednesday, May 30, 2007 – Chely Wright, founder of Reading, Writing & Rhythm, will host for the seventh consecutive year the Reading, Writing & Rhythm Benefit Concert & Auction June 5 in Nashville.

Wright established Reading, Writing & Rhythm in 1999 with the objective of improving the quality of music education in America's public schools and raising public awareness surrounding the importance of music education for our nation's youth. The charity has raised more than $1 million and donated gifts of music, musical instruments and services to schools and students nationwide. Last year's musical event alone raised more than $100,000 for the charity.

American Airlines, a primary sponsor for the last five years, donated five fly-aways this year. Concertgoers can bid on three separate "Seeing Stars" packages to see Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Reba McEntire and/or Keith Urban in concert. The packages include two show tickets, two meet and greet passes and two round-trip air tickets from any domestic destination in the U.S.

Also on the live auction block are two one-of-a-kind get-aways: A Grand Ole Opry Vacation (including a backstage tour of the Grand Ole Opry, backstage seats during the evening's Grand Ole Opry Show, round-trip airfare and a stay at the Opryland Hotel) and a "Sea-Ya" Fly-Away Vacation to a Caribbean destination of the winning bidder's choice.

Silent auction items will include an assortment of guitars [from electric to acoustic to bass guitars] and country music memorabilia.

Wright fans can bid on two VIP-All Access passes to attend this year's concert. The winning bidder will receive two front-row, center-stage seats to watch the concert and two All-Access backstage passes. The package is available for bid on eBay.com now thru June 3. All proceeds collected from the eBay auction will be donated to Reading, Writing & Rhythm.

The concert includes performances by Keith Anderson, Emerson Drive, Danielle Peck, Kellie Pickler, Mindy Smith, Taylor Swift, Trent Tomlinson, Clay Walker, Chris Young and Wright with surprise special guest appearances all night long.

This year's event is being sponsored by American Airlines, BB&T Financial, BMI, Best Buy, Catena Watches, Flavour, Harley Davidson of Cool Springs, Shure Mics, Wildhorse Saloon and XM Satellite Radio.

CD review - Santa Will Find You! Thoughtful may not always be a word applied to holiday music. Capitalization may be a more utilized descriptor. Nevertheless, Chely Wright's "Santa Will Find You" is a brief, but considerate collection of Christmas-inspired songs. The title track was written with military personnel in mind. Santa Claus will reach military men and women no matter how remotely they may be stationed. The lyric applies universally, though, as Wright sings over an orchestrated arrangement: "If ...
CD review - Lifted Off the Ground It would be almost impossible to give a review of the newest release from Chely Wright without also mentioning the other reason she's been in the news lately. Wright's recent admission that she is a lesbian has mostly overshadowed her new album, but the record should not be ignored. Many of the songs were born out of the depression that had taken over Wright's life under the weight of the secret she was keeping. Writing them helped to pull her out. As you might expect, this is a ...
CD review - The Metropolitan Hotel After giving up on the major labels and maybe vice versa and an ill-fated stint with a new indie that produced one measly single, Chely Wright went her own way to very good effect. The Kansan always has had a strong voice that does justice to the material. That has not changed one iota here, although she can sound tender (the opener Its the Song about the difficult life on the road), but is no easy mark. What may be different this time around is Wright is tackling far weightier matters. ...
