Pickler goes bald - for a cause

Wednesday, September 5, 2012 – Kellie Pickler has a new look. She's bald.

The singer did so to stand beside her best friend - a childhood friend who Pickler refers to as her "sister" - Summer Holt Miller throughout her breast cancer prognosis and subsequent treatment since receiving word of the diagnosis in June.

On Tuesday, in Nashville, the inseparable duo took their stance against cancer one step further when they both buzzed their hair to bring awareness to the importance of early detection. As revealed on ABC's Good Morning America exclusively, Pickler and Miller shared their story as Miller was 36 when she received word of her diagnosis.

"Cancer does not discriminate," Pickler said.

"If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it," Miller echoed.

Miller, aware of her family's history of breast cancer, had always been super cautious with her self-examinations, but had the mother of two not been diligent with her doctor and requested a mammogram, the tumor detected in its early stage could have turned fatal. Miller recently underwent a double mastectomy and will begin chemotherapy this Thursday.

A behind-the-scenes video capturing the ladies' cuts and truthful candor about Miller's diagnosis and treatment will be shared on Athena Water's website, www.athenawater.com. The company will make a monetary donation to the American Cancer Society in Miller's honor. Athena will contribute a minimum of $2 million to support breast cancer awareness, care, education and research by 2014.

"So many people feel helpless when a loved one is diagnosed with breast cancer," said Athena CEO Dillon Schickli. "Athena gives everyone the chance to make a difference, with every bottle of water, 365 days of the year." For every bottle of water purchased, a portion of the proceeds benefits breast cancer awareness.

CD review - The Woman I Am High quality music found on Kellie Pickler's "The Woman I Am" evidences how the country singer's last album, "100 Proof," was no fluke. The title track, which Pickler co-wrote with husband Kyle Jacobs, explains how this woman will always have a whole lot of traditional country in her blood. "Sometimes I cry at night/Fall to pieces with Patsy Cline." Many of this 12-song album's best material are also ones Pickler helped pen. They include the ...
CD review - 100 Proof Until now, Kellie Pickler has become known in country circles more for her bubbly, Dolly Parton-esque personality than for her singing. Granted, she has had some strong singles, notably the autobiographical I Wonder, but one could be forgiven for lumping her in the pile of most former American Idol contestants who hover in and around country music, but never really make an impact. Somewhere after the release of her sophomore album, however, she started mentioning in interviews that she was ...
CD review - Kellie Pickler At this point, it's a law of television that the results of American Idol are not proportional to post-show success. Past winners are without record contracts, and, among the ranks of former sixth place finishers, Kellie Pickler (aka "Pickles") has gone from waitressing to amassing a handful of pop-country hits at only 22 years old. On her second effort, Pickler spreads her wings beyond vocals to songwriting half the 10 songs. Things kick off with the mighty message song, ...
