Isbell veers "Southeastern" this June
The disc contains 12 new Isbell compositions. Tracks such as Stockholm (with Kim Richey) and Traveling Alone (with Amanda Shires) offer laid back tempos.
"Southeastern" features 400 Unit members Derry deBorja (keyboards) and Chad Gamble (drums) along with Richey and Shires. The album was produced by Dave Cobb (Jamey Johnson, The Secret Sisters).
This is Isbell's first solo album since his 2007 debut "Sirens of the Ditch." Since then he has recorded three albums (two studio, one live) with his band The 400 Unit. 2011's "Here We Rest" became Isbell's most lauded effort to date, cracking the top 100 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart for the first time. His song, Alabama Pines, won Song of the Year at the 2012 Americana Music Awards & Honors.

Jason Isbell opens by telling the audience this is their 50th appearance at the legendary Ryman, a feat not many can equal. Moreover, it's the recent seven, eight and now 10-day residencies that Isbell and his band have experienced, a testament to the in-demand status of one of the best live performing bands of today. Isbell has a unique ability to get deep inside the heads of his various characters to reveal insightful patterns of thought and behavior. Jason Isbell deserves kudos for putting a unique spin on the benefit album. Instead of throwing together a bunch of many times unrelated celebrities to pitch in, Isbell has brought together talented performers to cover Georgia-related songs and songs by Georgia-based artists. All proceeds support Black Voters Matter, Fair Fight and Georgia Stand-Up. Even if you may not support these groups, you will still enjoy this set of mostly familiar songs.
The album opens and closes with two R.E.M. songs. ...
