Miranda Lambert receives honor from Texas legislature

Saturday, June 23, 2007 – Miranda Lambert was presented with a framed resolution from the Texas House of Representatives on June 20, recognizing her career. Lambert received the honor from Texas House Representative Tommy Merritt during a quick stop at her hometown store and Fan Club Headquarters in Lindale.

The resolution congratulated Lambert for her recent win as the 2007 Top New Female Vocalist at the Academy of Country Music Awards.

Rep. Merritt described Lambert as a "young woman with immense talent who is determined to make meaningful music on her own terms. She has proven herself yet another of the inspired musicians to hail from the Lone Star State."

Lambert said, "This is an honor, and I thank you. Growing up in east Texas was really good for me. This is the only state where I own a house, and I am proud to be from Texas."

Lambert left to join Toby Keith's new Big Dog Daddy tour which opened Thursday in Birmingham, Ala. Lambert will be on more than 50 dates around the U.S.

Today's object lesson comes from Miranda Lambert and her sophomore album, the follow-up to her 2005 near-platinum debut, "Kerosene." Imagine for a moment if the then-19-year-old had actually taken the crown in 2003's Nashville Star and then been forced into the studio within weeks to be primped and ...
