Reba helps fight hunger

Friday, March 20, 2015 – Reba McEntire will be the spokesperson of an effort to combat hunger.

McEntire will work with Big Machine Label Group, General Mills and Feeding America on the fourth annual Outnumber Hunger campaign, which has helped secure more than 35 million meals to people facing hunger in America.,

McEntire kick off the campaign with a concert event, "Reba and Friends Outnumber Hunger," featuring songs from her forthcoming album "Love Somebody," which is out in April.

"I was raised to treat others with compassion. Knowing that one in six Americans struggle with hunger means my fans and people I see every day need help," said McEntire. "The Outnumber Hunger campaign is such a simple way to help your neighbors, so how could you not? I'm so proud to lead the charge with Big Machine Label Group, General Mills and Feeding America."

Starting in April, McEntire and other BMLG artists will be featured on more than 60 million General Mills packages, including Cheerios, Pillsbury, Yoplait and Nature Valley. Through Jan. 31, 2016, individuals can help Feeding America secure five meals for their local food bank, for each General Mills product code entered at OutnumberHunger.com.

"As a leading food company in the United States, we have a responsibility to do what we can to support the one in six Americans who may not know where their next meal is going to come from," said Shawn O'Grady, senior vice president, General Mills. "We are excited to partner with Reba, Big Machine Label Group and Feeding America to bring attention to the issue of hunger in America and provide meals to those who turn to their local food bank for help."

General Mills is a Feeding America Leadership Partner and has worked with its network of food banks for more than 30 years. Over the last 10 years, General Mills has donated nearly 230 million pounds of food to Feeding America.

Fans nationwide can experience the concert, which also includes Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Florida Georgia Line, Eli Young Band and Maddie & Tae, beginning with televised broadcasts on local Gannett affiliates starting April 17. The concert will also air April 18 on CMT, as well as through an exclusive radio broadcast featured on iHeartMedia Country stations across the nation and via the iHeartRadio app.

CD reviews for Reba McEntire

CD review - My Chains Are Gone It's so good to hear Reba McEntire's gospel album so soon after Carrie Underwood released the similar "My Savior." While Underwood's release may have been her country-ist album – ever, perhaps – McEntire has strayed far less often from her traditional music roots. With "My Chains Are Gone," McEntire gives us a selection of songs she – like Underwood – grew up singing. Therefore, she knows them all like the back of her hand, the way ...
CD review - Stronger Than the Truth The beauty of Reba McEntire's albums flows from her way with a phrase, knowing when to modulate to carry us deeper into sadness or joy and when to pull back when she wants us to listen quietly to the lessons of a tear falling. Her songs can also urge us to scamper across the dance floor to twin fiddles, celebrating the exhilarating freedom of the moment or the satisfaction of breakup from a messy relationship. This album follows the end of McEntire's marriage to her manager. ...
CD review - My Kind of Christmas (expanded version) Reba McEntire's "My Kind of Christmas," is essentially the same album, with the same title, she released a while back through Cracker Barrel. The project is mostly comprised of the country Wonder Woman's strong singing voice, backed by acoustic piano. The new wrinkle in this expanded edition, though, is a bevy of guest vocalists. These guest spots are so good, it's worth the extra bucks to get the full package. Reba is joined by the dynamic husband and wife team, Vince ...
