Musgraves, Smith drop music
Tuesday, June 23, 2015 – Kacey Musgraves is back with her sophomore major label release, "Pageant Material." Musgraves won much acclaim for her debut, "Same Trailer Different Park" upon its release in 2013. She had hit singles with "Merry Go Round" and "Follow Your Arrow," a controversial song about acceptance. Musgraves co-wrote all 13 songs and co-produced with Luke Laird and Shane McAnally on the new album.
Canaan Smith offers his debut disc after releasing an EP earlier this year. The album includes the hit single "Love You Like That." A Target exclusive release features two bonus tracks, "Gettin' Into" and "Fire." Brett Beavers, Jimmy Robbins and Ryan Tyndell produced the 11-song disc.
Husband-and-wife Larry Campbell and Theresa Williams are out with their self-titled debut. They had been members of Levon Helm's band where Campbell, an ace guitarist, served as the band leader. Williams sang vocals.

CD reviews for Kacey Musgraves

Instead, to some extent, Musgraves sounds to be putting at least some of the blame on herself. One titled "Good Wife," finds ...
Sometimes it's not about what you play, but the way you play it, and with "A Very Kacey Christmas," Kacey Musgraves sacrifices a little surprise for a relatively pleasantly predictable holiday offering.
For instance, Musgraves' duet with Willie Nelson plays on (surprise surprise) the iconic singer's propensity to smoke weed when they wish the world "A Willie Nice Christmas." Although there are some sad country songs, like "Christmas Makes Me Cry" and ...
Kacey Musgraves is a welcome throwback in these bro and modern country times. That means you're going to hear sharp lyrics with more than a touch of humor, story songs and even instrumentation that recalls traditional country, like pedal steel, mandolin and a Johnny Cash drumbeat.
Musgraves' tour de force is her uncanny ability to turn a phrase. She does employ fellow producers Luke Laird and Shane McAnally plus Brandy Clark and Josh Osborne, among others, for lyrical help. ...
