Evans, Niemann off Sony roster

Thursday, February 4, 2016 – Sara Evans, Jerrod Niemann and The Swon Brothers are among the acts no longer on the Sony Nashville roster, according to published reports.

Evans spent her entire career on RCA Nashville, part of the Sony umbrella, since her traditional country debut, "Three Chords and the Truth" in 1997. Her final release was "At Christmas" in 2014.

Niemann release three albums for Sea Gayle/Arista, also part of the Sony label. His final release was "High Noon" in 2014. His biggest hit was "Lover Lover" in 2010.

The Swon Brothers released an EP last week, "Timeless," on their own, in effect indicating that they were no longer on Sony. The Oklahoma duo released one disc on the label. The Swons currently are on tour with Carrie Underwood.

Reports also said that The Henningsens and Josh Dorr are off the label as well. Neither released an album on Sony. The Henningsens are a trio consisting of Brian Henningsen, his son Aaron, and daughter Clara. They released an EP in 2013 and a Christmas release in 2014.

The label also signed several acts in recent months, including Kane Brown last week. Maren Morris, who already has an EP out, and LANco also recently signed with Sony.

You gotta love country music, which still demonizes tobacco just like a Baptist Church Sunday sermon. "Marquee Sign," off Sara Evans' "Word" album begins with the country star announcing, "I wish you were a pack of cigarettes/'Cause you would have come with a warning." Cigarettes, like the tequila she sings about later, are clearly bad for you. Unfortunately, the man in this song didn't come labeled with a skull and cross bones. The album from whence ...
CD review - At Christmas Sara Evans is straight-up one of the best singers in country music, and when she performs "Go Tell It On The Mountain" backed by a supportive choir on her new holiday offering, "At Christmas," the girl is squarely in her element. She has the kind of strong voice that gives this lyric the spiritual declarative quality it requires. And yet, she can switch to the acoustic guitar-backed "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" and sing ever so prettily and quietly. ...
