Morris becomes "Hero"

Wednesday, March 16, 2016 – Maren Morris, the voice behind the hit single "My Church," releases her major label debut, "Hero," on June 3 on Sony.

The disc includes 11 tracks, all of which Morris had a hand in writing. Some of the songs on last year's EP are included.

"'I Wish I Was' is the most autobiographical song on this record, and I admittedly was not the hero in that story, but I am the hero in mine. I've come such a long way from who I was in Texas, who I am as a writer, who I am as a woman today. I think the message of this record is self acceptance and awareness, and that to me is heroic."

Morris returns to her home state of Texas this week for appearances at SXSW in Austin. Morris will perform at The Spotify House on Wednesday (March 16) and YouTube Music at Coppertank on Thursday (March 17).

Morris will kick off the "Hero" release with the first stop on the Keith Urban RipCORD World Tour 2016 on June 3 in Kansas City.

The track listing is:
1. Sugar - Maren Morris/Brett Tyler/Laura Veltz
2. Rich - Maren Morris/Jessie Jo Dillon/Laura Veltz
3. My Church - Maren Morris/busbee
4. I Could Use a Love Song - Maren Morris/Jimmy Robbins/Laura Veltz
5. 80's Mercedes - Maren Morris/busbee
6. Drunk Girls Don't Cry - Maren Morris/Barry Dean/Luke Laird
7. How It's Done - Maren Morris/busbee/Natalie Hemby
8. Just Another Thing - Maren Morris/Matt Dragstrem/Shane McAnally
9. I Wish I Was - Maren Morris/Natalie Hemby/Ryan Hurd
10. Second Wind - Maren Morris/Chris DeStefano/Shane McAnally
11. Once - Maren Morris/busbee

CD reviews for Maren Morris

CD review - Humble Quest Seeing Greg Kurstin listed as the producer on Maren Morris' "Humble Quest" album, can't help but raise a few eyebrows. His resume includes the likes of Pink and Sia, but not many country-related artists. Furthermore, it wasn't too long ago that Morris had big hit with "The Middle," a decidedly pop hit single recorded with the Russian-German producer, Zedd. This album's results are not as overtly pop as that recording, but not as country as her country hit "My Church. ...
CD review - GIRL Maren Morris, who had a huge pop hit with "The Middle," is never going to be anybody's ideal traditional country singer. Although, thankfully, there isn't anything that mind-numbingly beat-driven on her "GIRL" album, this is a full-length that will likely appeal as much to Morris' pop fans, as her country followers. The first great song, "A Song For Everything," addresses that mysterious intersection between one's favorite songs and significant life events. ...
CD review - Hero Maren Morris scored a hit out of the box with "My Church," the best of 11 songs on her major label full-length debut. The Texan infuses the song she wrote with uber producer busbee (he's worked with everyone from Keith Urban on "Ripcord" to 5 Seconds of Summer and Shakira and is one of three producers here including Morris) with mighty vocals powering a midtempo, soulful reading extolling the redemptive powers of playing music with the windows rolled down. ...
