Owen scores career high

Sunday, August 7, 2016 – Jake Owen leads a total of three country albums on the Billboard top 10 in a preliminary chart released on Sunday. Owen's "American Love" was the fourth best selling disc in the U.S. this week with 35,000 units.

Of that total, 29,000 were in traditional album sales. Owen's previous high was in 2011 when "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" was sixth with 55,000 units sold in its first week.

Blake Shelton's "If I'm Honest" jumped from 24 to 9 with 28,000 units, up 88 percent. The huge jump was mainly due to a 99-cent sale in the Google Play store.

Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott led Hillary Scott & The Scott Family's "Love Remains" to seventh on the chart with 31,000 units (28,000 in traditional album sales). Scott was second on the Top Country Albums and first on the Top Christian Albums charts.

DJ Khaled led the charts with "Major Key," selling 95,000 units.

Billboard releases the full charts on Tuesday.

CD review - American Love Most everyone has made up their mind on bro-country music. Maybe you love the breezy images of the beach dippin' and sippin' lifestyle, or you write it off as empty headed and repetitive. His career has been on a more-or-less upward arc, with higher-profile tours and bigger hits each time out. ...
CD review - Days of Gold Jake Owen aims to satisfy all comers (that is, if the current country is your thing), but the individual pieces don't quite add up. The songs may stand up on their own well enough, but when all is said and done, Owen remains an artist without much of an identity or sound. Take, for example, Beachin', one of countless country songs about the good life. Like many of his counterparts these days, there's a spoken, neo hip hop rap part to it. The song is breezy, on the catchy side, but ...
