Owen, FGL top Billboard charts

Tuesday, August 9, 2016 – Jake Owen's "American Love" was the top country album, leading the Billboard Country Albums chart and fourth on the overall chart. Florida Georgia Line continued its dominance of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart as "H.O.L.Y." stayed first for the week ending Aug. 20.

On the songs chart, Kenny Chesney skyrocketed all the way from 43 to 2 with "Setting the World on Fire," which features Pink. Eric Church placed third with "Record Year," Sam Hunt fourth with "Make You Miss Me" and Dan + Shay fifth with "From the Ground Up."

Owen's "American Country Love Song" was up from 11 to 6. Old Dominion was at 22, up 7, with "Song For Another Time." There was little movement in the rest of the top 25.

On the albums chart, Hilly Scott & The Scott Family debuted in second with "Love Remains," a religious album from one-third of Lady Antebellum and her family. Blake Shelton was third with "If I'm Honest." Last week's number one, "Traveller," from Chris Stapleton, fell to fourth. Keith Urban was fifth with "Ripcord."

Lori McKenna, best known as a songwriter, debuted in 19th with her indie release "The Bird & The Rifle."

On the Bluegrass Albums chart, The Earls of Leicester were first with "Rattle & Roar." Sarah Jarosz stood in second with "Undercurrent." Steve Gulley & New Pinnacle was third, up nine, with "Aim High." The Broadway cast recording of "Bright Star: A New Musical" by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, was fourth. We Banjo 3's "Live in Galway" was fifth.

Stapleton led the Americana/Folk Albums chart. The Lumineers were second with "Cleopatra." Kaleo was third with "A/B," McKenna fourth and Paul Simon fifth with "Stranger to Stranger."

On the overall top 200 chart, Hillary Scott & The Scott Family were 7th, Shelton 9th, Stapleton 15th and Hunt 28th. The top 200 and country albums charts use different criteria.

CD review - Greetings from...Jake Owen Jake Owen contributes to the writing of his album "Greetings From...Jake" on just one song called "Damn." Therefore, the success this project rises or falls with his vocals and song choices. Fortunately, Own has chosen some memorable songs to sing, and his singing voice has never sounded better. He's never better than on the single and album opener, "Down to the Honkytonk." It's a 'friends in low places' drinking song, where Owen's voice gets ...
CD review - American Love Most everyone has made up their mind on bro-country music. Maybe you love the breezy images of the beach dippin' and sippin' lifestyle, or you write it off as empty headed and repetitive. Either way, Florida native Jake Owen was a torchbearer for the genre, and it's rewarded him well - four albums and five Number One singles (remember "Beachin"?). His career has been on a more-or-less upward arc, with higher-profile tours and bigger hits each time out. ...
CD review - Days of Gold Jake Owen aims to satisfy all comers (that is, if the current country is your thing), but the individual pieces don't quite add up. The songs may stand up on their own well enough, but when all is said and done, Owen remains an artist without much of an identity or sound. Take, for example, Beachin', one of countless country songs about the good life. Like many of his counterparts these days, there's a spoken, neo hip hop rap part to it. The song is breezy, on the catchy side, but ...
