Alan Jackson's mother passes away
"Mama Ruth," as she was known, was the subject of several songs by her son, including "Livin' on Love" and "Home." In the latter song, Jackson wrote, ""My mama raised five children - four girls, and there was me/She found her strength in faith in God and a love of family/She never had a social life; home was all she knew/Except the time she took a job to pay a bill or two."
She was the wife of the late Joseph Eugene ("Daddy Gene") Jackson, who also was the subject of Jackson's songs.
Jackson put out the album "Precious Memories," a collection of gospel songs as a gift to his mother. He originally had not intended to release the songs as an album. Jackson's second Christmas album, "Let It Be Christmas," was also inspired by Mama Ruth's desire and request to hear her son record the holiday's traditional classics.
