Court releases video of Travis 2012 arrest

Monday, December 4, 2017 – Video of Randy Travis' 2012 arrest in Texas was released today, showing him naked and cursing at the police officer, who arrested him. Travis issued a statement apologizing for his behavior, but also saying that a civil rights suit against the state of Texas would continue.

TMZ released a portion of the three-hour video on its web site, showing a naked Travis inside the police cruiser. Travis recounted how he had a disagreement with his fiance, how his father did not treat him well growing up. He then told the officer that he was mad at him for having locked him up inside the car and that he would pray for him.

"You think you got the goddamn right to do me this way," he said. "You will die motherfucker."

The officer maintained a calm voice, asking him what he had done wrong. "You insult me man," Travis said, adding, "You Goddamn insulted me."

Travis also said, "You insulted me by locking me up in a Goddamn cage basically with handcuffs behind me with my dick hanging out. Now I'm proud of my dick. It's bigger than most...You insulted me. You're a dead man."

The statement from Travis' publicist said, "Randy's behavior was extremely altered the evening of his arrest due to the state of his mental health, and substances in his body, causing him to do and say things that were entirely out of character. He suffered a severe concussion and sustained numerous other injuries from the crash."

"Notwithstanding the release of the tape, Randy and his team will have their day in court regarding the ongoing lawsuit against the State of Texas in relation to the violation of his civil rights."

"Randy Travis is well-known to be a loving, caring person who is respectful of everyone, a video that shows anything otherwise only underscores that he was absolutely not himself. Randy is deeply apologetic for his actions that evening. A man of integrity with a good heart, Randy does not and will never condone these types of actions that distort the true beliefs of Randy Travis and his entire family."

Travis, 58, was arrested shortly before midnight on Aug. 7, 2012 following a one-vehicle crash near Tioga, about 60 miles north of Dallas. State troopers responded after a witness reported the accident and a man lying naked in the street.

Travis was charged with operating under the influence and retaliation after threatening to shoot and kill the troopers on the scene. In a plea deal, Travis received two years probation.

Travis suffered a stroke in 2013, leaving him difficulty walking and singing.

CD review - Influence Vol. 2: The Man I Am Not having heard Randy Travis' new material, one could mistakenly think a guest vocalist was taking the first licks of "I'm Movin' On," his new album's opening cut. Is that Hank Snow? No, can't be. Refrain ... still the same voice. Second verse - oh man, that's Randy Travis! Wow, his voice sure has changed. Well, yeah, when you've been singing professionally since the mid-1980s, the ol' pipes can slip a bit. And Travis, 54, has battled serious ...
CD review - Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am Randy Travis hasn't had it easy in recent years with abuse, arrests and this past summer, a major health issue of a stroke. But one thing that hasn't changed is the ease with which the North Carolina native, credited with spearheading the Neo Traditionalist movement 25 years ago, tackles traditional material. That's what this disc is about - Travis doing his take on songs that influenced him. From the sounds of it, Travis had a lot of good music kicking around the house, especially Merle Haggard. ...
CD review - Anniversary Celebration When Randy Travis released "A Few Ole Country Boys" in 1990, it was plain to see the message of his duet with (and ode to) the legendary George Jones hit close to home. Just a few years removed from his stint as a cook at Music City bar The Nashville Palace, Travis' delivery of lyrics such as "Not too many years ago/When dreams weren't comin' true/I'd reach for inspiration/Sometimes it would be you" carried heavy-hitting meaning by the budding star. ...
