Clark puts her life on record

Friday, January 10, 2020 – Brandy Clark said today she would release her new album, "Your Life is a Record," on Warner on March 6.

"To me, this album is about endings and beginnings. You know, sometimes you have to have endings to have those beautiful beginnings. I hope you find yourselves in me finding myself," said Clark in a Twitter post.

Clark released the leading single, "Who You Thought I Was," today.

="The seed of the song came from something that John Prine said a couple of years ago at the Americana Awards. He walked out onstage at the Ryman, and everyone stood up and clapped for what felt like five minutes. When everyone sat down, he said with a little laugh, 'Well, I'm John Prine, but I'd like to go back to being who you thought I was.' Man...that hit me. The songwriter in me instantly knew it was a song, and the heart in me knew it was how I had felt in my own life many times. I mean who of us hasn't let somebody down or wanted to be the version of ourselves that someone who loved us thought we were?" Clark said.

Jay Joyce produced the set, mainly recorded with an acoustic quartet.

The track list is:
1. I'll Be the Sad Song
2. Long Walk
3. Love is a Fire
4. Pawn Shop
5. Who You Thought I Was
6. Apologies
7. Bigger Boat (feat. Randy Newman)
8. Bad Car
9. Who Broke Whose Heart
10. Can We Be Strangers
11. The Past is the Past

The Washington native has enjoyed success as a songwriter.

CD review - Your Life is a Record (Deluxe) The purpose for 'deluxe editions' of albums is not entirely clear, except perhaps to breathe new life into an aging album. This marketing ploy is especially curious in the case of Brandy Clark's "Your Life is a Record." After all, this already is a fully satisfying album, so why the seconds? However, more Brandy Clark is never a bad thing, so we'll take it. This new edition includes a couple of live versions of album songs. Both "Who You Thought I Was" and ...
CD review - Your Life is a Record Whenever Brandy Clark's "Your Life is a Record" is described as the work of a smart, female singer/songwriter - an inevitable characterization - you may immediately picture 11 sophisticated pop songs. And make no mistake about it; this music is sophisticated - sophisticated enough, in fact, to attract pop songwriter extraordinaire Randy Newman for a duet on "Bigger Boat." Surprisingly, though, much of the music contained within is also more organic than one might have ...
CD review - Big Day in a Small Town There are two components to Brandy Clark. First is her songwriting, which gained her much street cred, penning songs for the likes of Miranda Lambert ("Mama's Broken Heart" with Kacey Musgraves and Shane McAnally), The Band Perry ("Better Dig Two"), Keith Urban, Reba McEntire and a slew for Musgraves and Jennifer Nettles. And then there's her own artistic career with her major label debut finally coming close to three years after her extremely well-received (with ...
