Lori McKenna wins Boston Music album award

Monday, December 3, 2007 – Lori McKenna was honored by her hometown at the 20th Annual Boston Music Awards on Saturday night with the Album Of The Year award for "Unglamorous."

McKenna also performed her album track, "Witness To Your Life" during the ceremony. McKenna was nominated for four Boston Music Awards this year: Act Of The Year, Album Of The Year (Major), National Female Vocalist Of The Year and Song Of The Year.

"I am still in shock," said McKenna. "What an honor to be recognized by my fans and peers - especially in my hometown - I feel incredibly blessed."

"I could not have done this without the support of Byron Gallimore and Tim McGraw who produced the record, and all the amazingly talented musicians who played on it. Faith Hill for taking me under her wing and believing in my songs, and I especially could not have done this without my husband, Gene and our kids. They inspire me everyday. Now do you guys believe I have a job," McKenna asked with a smile.

McKenna received a huge boost last year when Hill included three of McKenna's songs on her number one album "Fireflies," including the hit, "Stealing Kisses." Since the release, McKenna opened the mainstage on several dates for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw's Soul 2 Soul 2007 Tour.

The Boston Music Awards is the country's longest running regional awards show. Proceeds from the event support Music Drives Us and Berklee City Music Program. Both organizations provide opportunities to young people who are interested in music but do not have access to music programs.

CD reviews for Lori McKenna

CD review - 1988 Seemingly in a blink, Lori McKenna has released her 12th album, "1988," named for the year she married her husband, Gene. Steady prolific output at about an album every other year, this is the fourth produced by Dave Cobb, the first call producer for Nashville singer-songwriters of McKenna's caliber. The album rings a bit more electric than previous offerings as McKenna and Cobb sat across from each other in the same room, cutting the basic tracks live. McKenna confesses to going ...
CD review - Christmas Right Here Lori McKenna includes a song titled "Christmas Without Crying," which wonders lyrically if it's possible to make it all the way through the Christmas season without crying. It also begs the question: Is it possible to make it through a McKenna album (even just an EP) without shedding a few tears? (The answer is an emphatic 'No!') No, not even a Christmas album, which is a season that celebrates (we're told) the happiest time of the year. Then again, McKenna is nothing ...
CD review - The Balladeer Lori McKenna records should come with a warning label - this product may cause uncontrollable weeping. Every generation has their best songwriters, and this unassuming mom from Massachusetts happens to be one of them. It's the kind of talent that wins Best Country Song Grammys in streaks. She took the trophy home in 2016 for co-penning "Girl Crush". Then in 2017, she won again for "Humble and Kind" (which she wrote herself). Some of the other years, she was at least nominated. ...
