Rhett contemplates "Death Row"

Friday, March 4, 2022 – Thomas Rhett dropped a new song today, "Death Row," from his forthcoming album "Where We Started.

The song features Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line and Russell Dickerson. Rhett writes of visiting prisoners on death row and what we can learn from them.

The song was penned after the three visited a men's prison in Tennessee with their guitars. Rhett wrote the sobering track of redemption alongside Ashley Gorley and Zack Crowell.

"Tyler, Russell and I went and played some songs for a men's prison here in Tennessee," Rhett said. "We left with a lot of complex feelings, so I started writing as a way to process the heaviness. Our goal was for people to understand our experience by way of music. It's basically a page directly from our journal that day."

It was also announced this week that Rhett stars in the first new Fritos television commercial in 20 years for its "Down For Everything" campaign, airing nationwide now ahead of his live performance at the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards airing on Prime Video, March 7 at 8 p.m. eastern.

CD review - Where We Started Thomas Rhett's "Where We Started" begins with a wonderfully positive relationship song titled "The Hill." Over a quiet, acoustic guitar arrangement, Rhett sings of how a successful marriage is the hill he wants to die on. When it comes to setting the right priorities in life, McKenna is one of our greatest ...
CD review - Country Again: Side A Thomas Rhett is in the artistic zone. Rhett Atkins' boy never really struggled to get noticed, but starting around 2015, his impact went nuclear – "Die A Happy Man" wasn't just a number one, but a monster that stayed there for two months. The ACM Award for Entertainer of the Year still carries a lot of weight, and Rhett nabbed it in 2019. Still, Rhett's sound has its doubters – a lot of the air-quote country hits were grafted to other dance, pop and soul styles. ...
CD review - 6-Pack EP When Florida Georgia Line sing about how much they love their country with "I Love My Country," this lightning rod duo must certainly be aware that not everybody loves 'their' country. 'Their' country doesn't always match the country music of George Strait, after all, who is name-dropped in said song. Strait is just too stylistically straight, for instance, to ever work in the sort of hip-hop cadence that drives "Ain't Worried About It. ...
