Tuttle, McKenna release new sounds; Cooke, Adell debut
1988 was a big year for Lori McKenna. That was the year that she married here husband, Gene, a plumber. And now 35 years and five kids later, McKenna has entitled her 12th album "1988." McKenna was once again produced by Dave Cobb and veers more towards a pop sound.
Ashley Cooke debuts with "shot in the dark," a 24-song release on Big Loud Records. "what are you on fire about," featuring Jackson Dean, was co-written with Lainey Wilson. Born in Parkland, Fla. and influenced by Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts and Kelly Clarkson, Cooke wrote her first song at 11. Cooke moved to Nashville at 18 and attended the Belmont University, but not for music. After entering the school's Country Showcase on a whim and winning, Cooke decided to pursue music for a year. When the pandemic had other plans, Cooke went to TikTok where she built a following.
Tanner Adell releases her debut country mixtape, "Buckle Bunny," via Columbia Nashville. The eight-song collection is is said to be the first-ever major label debut mixtape in the genre. The music is rooted in country while infusing a blend of pop vocals and hip-hop beats. Adell grew up in California and Wyoming and appears to be focused on female empowerment.
