The Mavs, Booth, Moody release CDs

Friday, May 17, 2024 – Long-running band The Mavericks are out with "Moon & Stars" on their Mono Mundo label with Thirty Tigers Lead singer Raul Malo gets a little help from Nicole Atkins, Sierra Ferrell and Maggie Rose.

Laci Kaye Booth, a Texas native, releases her debut, "The Loneliest Girl In The World," on Geffen. Booth previously had been on Big Machine Label Group. Raised in a barn in Livingston, TX and now based in Nashville, Booth started writing her own songs at age nine. She was named one of CMT's "Next Women of Country." The release, produced by Ben West, contains 15 songs.

Ruth Moody released "Wanderer," the long-awaited new solo album from the Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. A founding and current member of Canadian folk/Americana trio The Wailin' Jennys, Moody recorded at Sound Emporium in Nashville. The self-penned, 10-song album was co-produced by Moody and Dan Knobler (Allison Russell, Lake Street Dive) and mixed by Tucker Martine (Madison Cunningham, First Aid Kit), The Decemberists). The album is on Moody's Blue Muse Record. Moody's last solo release, "These Wilder Things," came out more than a decade ago.

CD review - Hey! Merry Christmas! Sometimes, musicians create holiday albums, and it's obvious to the listener the act is breaking character. Maybe they just want to make a buck off the seasonal experience, so they'll put on ill-fitting red clothes and play the part. With "Hey! Merry Christmas!" by The Mavericks, though, one finds another fine album by the group, which just happens to be comprised of songs that concern Christmas.
