The Mavericks' Malo discloses he has canceer.

Friday, June 28, 2024 – The Mavericks lead singer Raul Malo disclosed on Thursday that he was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Malo said via a video on social media that tests discovered two spots in his colon. He will start chemotherapy after July 4.

Malo also said that some shows may be changed or cancelled. The Mavericks are touring behind their just released disc "Moon and Stars."

Malo said the band has been on a "health journey" to be healthier. That led to the finding of cancer. "Some of the shows may be affected this year as we navigate this situation and see how the therapy goes. They have told me that this chemotherapy is the least intrusive of all of them and most people continue working and their dailya ctivity as if nothing. Let's hope for the best...At the end of the day i feel like I'm getting the best care possible, and we're going to fight this all we have."

He also urged fans to "get checked out. See a doctor. Be pro-active in your health...Stay healthy. Take care of yourself, and I'll see you out on the road."

Malo said on Instagram, "Our shows in Aspen on 7/12 and Steamboat Springs on 7/14 must unfortunately be canceled due to follow-up treatment, and our show in Denver on 7/13 is rescheduled to 8/25," Malo said on Instagram. "Refunds for the canceled shows will be issued automatically through official points of purchase. Tickets for the Denver show will remain good for the new date, but we understand some folks may not be able to make it then, so if you need a refund those are available now through the next 2 weeks from your point of purchase."

"We regret any inconvenience, but appreciate your understanding, and look forward to dancing with you again soon," Malo said.

CD review - Moon & Stars It is, of course, impossible to know how the world would have been different if Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. (The Big Bopper) Richardson had not perished in that fateful plane crash. But if Feb. 3, 1959 had not been the day the music died, but, instead, the day the music had a terrifying close call, and if these three musicians decided to team up after their near-death experience, it's possible that the resultant combo might sound something like The Mavericks. Think about it, Raul ...
CD review - Play the Hits When The Mavericks call an album "Play The Hits," It really should be qualified as "Play The Selective Hits" because this band has never been especially interested in performing only what's commercially viable. With that said, though, all these 11 songs are familiar to most pop and country music fans. Also, whatever The Mavericks play, they play the maverick. For instance, Waylon Jennings' "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" incorporates a touch of Tex-Mex ...
CD review - Hey! Merry Christmas! Sometimes, musicians create holiday albums, and it's obvious to the listener the act is breaking character. Maybe they just want to make a buck off the seasonal experience, so they'll put on ill-fitting red clothes and play the part. With "Hey! Merry Christmas!" by The Mavericks, though, one finds another fine album by the group, which just happens to be comprised of songs that concern Christmas. For example, the title track is a piano-pumping, rockabilly Jerry Lee Lewis throwback. ...
