Friday, May 31, 2024 – The ever prodigious Willie Nelson is out with "The Border (his 152nd album, according to Texas Monthly's interactive All Willie Nelson Albums Ranked list). The disc contains 10 newly recorded studio performances including four new Nelson/Buddy Cannon compositions - "Once Upon a Yesterday," "What If I'm Out of My Mind," "Kiss Me When You're Through" and "How Much Does It Cost" and "Hank's Guitar," a new song cowritten by Cannon and Bobby Tomberlin. Nelson's first album in 2024 contains his versions of compositions by Larry Cordle and Erin Enderlin ("I Wrote This Song for You"), Rodney Crowell and Will Jennings ("Many a Long and Lonesome Highway"), Shawn Camp and Monty Holmes ("Made in Texas") and Mike Reid ("Nobody Knows Me Like You"). Produced by Cannon, Nelson's longtime musical collaborator "The Border" showcases Nelson (lead vocals, Trigger) accompanied by Mickey Raphael (harmonica), Bobby Terry (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, steel guitar), James Mitchell (electric guitar), Jim "Moose" Brown (Wurlitzer, B-3 organ, piano, synthesizer), Fred Eltringham (drums, percussion) and Barry Bales (upright bass). Backing vocals are by Cannon and his daughter, Melonie.

The music blurs the lines between folk, roots, country, blues and soul alongside special guests Margo Price, Vernon Reid, Jenny Lewis, Justin Vernon and The Cactus Blossoms.

Massachusetts native Georgia Webster is out with her third EP, "Signs." Webster had a hand in writing seven of the songs. Webster worked with producer King Henry (Sasha Sloan, Justin Bieber, Major Lazer, Beyonce). The EP crosses several genres.

CD review - The Border Willie Nelson has released more than 150 albums in his career, including four in the past two years. All this while approaching and surpassing the age of 90. Of all his many solo recordings, "The Border" ranks as one of his best. The songs are fresh, sincere, and full of energy and have many of the elements that fans expect from Ol' Willie - his unmistakable vocals, the trademark lead guitar work on his iconic axe, Trigger, and harmonica support from his 50-plus year bandmate, Mickey Raphael. ...

Howard wrote hundreds of country hits during his career. Nelson and producer Buddy Cannon picked 10 to showcase here, ...
