Eli Young Band are "Learning To Fly"

Friday, May 31, 2024 – Eli Young Band's version of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' hit song "Learning To Fly" debuts today as the latest single shared from the tribute album "Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.

"Tom Petty's influence on Eli Young Band runs deep, as he has always been, in one way or another, a road map for us," said Eli Young Band frontman Mike Eli. "'Learning To Fly' has long been a fixture in our show as well as many of his other songs. We are so pumped to be part of such an incredible salute to one of the masters."

"Learning To Fly" — the first track released from the American rock band's 1991 album, "Into the Great Wide Open" - was the most successful single on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart that year, remaining at the summit for six weeks.

The record is set for release on June 21 via Big Machine Records in partnership with the Tom Petty Estate.

Big Machine Records and the estate have unveiled several tracks from the album thus far; most recently, Wynonna Judd's take on "Refugee" featuring Lainey Wilson, Steve Earle's rendition of "Yer So Bad," Chris Stapleton's take on "I Should Have Known It," following "Southern Accents," reimagined by Petty's friend and fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Dolly Parton. Dierks Bentley's version of "American Girl" is featured on the album, premiering earlier this year.

Rounding out the band with members Jon Jones and Chris Thompson, ELB was born and released its first album "Level" in 2005. ...
CD review - Fingerprints Eli Young Band confused, alienated and even lost some of its fans with the 2015 release of a fully slicked up pop EP; "Turn It On." "The fans wanted another record that was the sound and the kind of songs that were the old-school Eli Young Band" said lead singer Mike Eli. They have responded with "Fingerprints," their first full length album since 2014's "10,000 Towns." Though clearly not as blatantly pop as the downright danceable EP, ...
CD review - Turn It On With the release of "Turn It On," the Eli Young Band brings new music about girls, love, and...disco. Singer Mike Eli, who co-wrote all four songs, is in fine voice, solidifying the EYB sound. The title cut, written with co-founder James Young, with its strong beat and up-front vocals, is tailor-made for listening while driving fast. With its "driving" beat and sing-along chorus, speeding tickets may increase. "Plastic" is about appreciating a girl who is ...
