Lynne soars with "Butterfly"

Friday, June 21, 2024 – Shelby Lynne debuted the song "Butterfly," a song from her upcoming disc, today.

Written by Lynne, Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town and Ashley Monroe, "Butterfly" is a tribute to Lynne's sister and fellow musician, Allison Moorer.

Lynne said, "Everyone wants to be around a butterfly. That's sissy. The songs about her. My most cherished person."

The new album, "Consequences of the Crown," is due Aug. 16 via Monument Records. Produced by Lynne, Fairchild, Monroe and Gena Johnson, "Consequences of the Crown" is Lynne's first new album since returning to Nashville after 25 years away. The release contains 12 songs.

The record also features contributions from Waylon Payne, Jedd Hughes, Angaleena Presley, Carter Faith, Meg McRee and Ben Chapman.

Lynne said, "I am going where it feels right to take a step. Breathing. Feeling the power of this music I lived for a time, another chapter in my life. I am grateful to be alive. I am grateful to you for listening to my life. This is the moment. We all wear a crown of consequences."

Lynne has unveiled two additional album tracks: "But I Ain't" and "Over and Over."

The track list is:
1. Truth We Know
2. Consequences
3. Butterfly
4. But I Ain't
5. Shattered
6. Gone To Bed
7. Clouds
8. Regular Man
9. Over and Over
10. Good Morning Mountain
11. Dear God
12. Keep The Light On

"But I Ain't" serves as a bridge between her past and present work, as it interpolates "Dreamsome," a track from her landmark album, "I Am Shelby Lynne." In honor of its 25th anniversary, a special reissue of the album was released earlier this spring via Monument Records.

Lynne will perform a special headline show at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 26, where she will perform new music as well as "I Am Shelby Lynne" in its entirety.

CD reviews for Shelby Lynne

CD review - Shelby Lynne Shelby Lynne has always been ahead of her time. The cover for this eponymous album, her 13th solo album and first since 2015's "I Can't Imagine," appears to be another example of her prescience. Though it had to be put together long before the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, it shows her wearing a facial mask and a look of fear. Coincidence, no doubt, but an eerie one. Don't worry though, this is not a collection of songs about social distancing and searching for Charmin. ...
CD review - I Can't Imagine Shelby Lynne really needs to figure out who she is if she ever wants to be something more than the answer to the trivia question "What artist won a Grammy for best new artist after releasing 6 albums over 12 years?" Is she a country singer? Blues? Is she Dusty Springfield reincarnated? Why can't she find a style and stick with it?" That's what they say anyway, but maybe they're wrong. Maybe Shelby figured out a long time ago who she was and how she wanted to sing. ...
CD review - I Am Shelby Lynne (Deluxe Version) The ironies surrounding Shelby Lynne's sixth album, 1999's "I Am Shelby Lynne," were as thick as mutant kudzu at the time. After a quintet of albums that garnered Lynne a ton of peer respect and negligible sales, the singer/songwriter extricated herself from a Nashville star machine that seemed determined to sculpt her talent in its witless image. Lynne moved to California, reinvented herself as herself, enlisted the talents of producer Bill Bottrell ...
