Ain't nothing but a "Tennessee Hound Dog" video for The Grascals
Saturday, July 27, 2024 – As The Grascals' album 20 nears its release on Aug. 23, the band released a music video for the lead-off track, "Tennessee Hound Dog."
The song is one of two Felice and Boudleaux Bryant-penned Osborne Brothers classics. "Tennessee Hound Dog" offers a recap of the group's earliest days, when Bobby Osborne would frequently join them on the stage of the Station Inn to lend his voice.
"We lost Bobby and Sonny Osborne from this earth in the past few years, and if you follow The Grascals, then you already know how much they meant to us," said Johnson. "While we didn't get to record a full tribute album, we did make sure and include two ('Georgia Pineywoods' and 'Tennessee Hound Dog') of their songs on this new album. 'Tennessee Hound Dog' is very fast paced, with soaring-high challenging vocals, and it has been cut by very few other than Bobby and Sonny. Albums have been uneven in both song selection and execution. The Grascals have attempted to broaden their appeal in ways detrimental to ...
The Grascals 2005 debut was surprisingly powerful, and Me and John and Paul continues to be their most singularly heartfelt recording. Which isn't to suggest that the sextet has failed to meet commercial and artistic standards with subsequent recordings. The Grascals have delivered high-quality songs and albums, at times appealingly frivolous, as on the joyously lighthearted e.p., "Dance Til Your Stocking are Hot and Ravelin'."
As ably as few other bluegrass bands, The ...
