Tenpenny "Started Stoppin'" today

Friday, September 13, 2024 – With Mitchell Tenpenny's third release, "The Third," one week away, the singer release the song "Started Stoppin'" today.

Tenpenny, Ashley Gorley, Chase McGill and producer Jordan Schmidt wrote the song.

"We wrote this song altogether at Ashley's beach house," said Tenpenny. "Someone said the phrase 'started stoppin,' and it became our hook. It almost wrote itself. I think Chase came up with the best line in the song, 'You quit loving me seven months ago. Last night I slept all night, that's one night in a row.' That line describes that feeling that you're finally getting over them. I did it. I passed that mark and got over the hump. And then something happens that reminds you of them. I love how the song grooves with the bass and drums. It all came together lyrically and sonically. It's one of my favorite songs I've ever done."

Tenpenny launched his headline "Woke Up In A Dream Tour" last night in Las Vegas at the Theater at Virgin Hotels. The tour will run through mid-November with The Castellows guesting this weekend and Dylan Schneider appearing on the remainder of the shows.

On Wednesday, Tenpenny will perform his current single, "Not Today," on The TODAY show.

CD reviews for Mitchell Tenpenny

CD review - This is the Heavy Mitchell Tenpenny calls his album "This is The Heavy" because "it's big. It's loud. It's in your face and drum heavy," he said. In contrast that is not at all how one would describe most country music. Thus, Tenpenny's lengthy album (a whole 20 tracks!) is country-associated, at best. The song titles, at least, read like country songs, including "More Than Whiskey Does," "Good And Gone" and "Good Place." The latter finds ...
CD review - Naughty House One big clue that Mitchell Tenpenny's "Naughty List" holiday collection is a winner, is how spontaneous and rocking is his version of "Jingle Bell Rock." He doesn't just repeat the Bobby Helms original, but instead makes it all his own. Then again, with a distinctive voice like his, he puts his personal stamp on everything. He rocks out even more during "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town," even though that one also includes upfront banjo picking. ...
CD review - Neon Christmas EP If all you know about Mitchell Tenpenny is "Alcohol You Later," you may be unprepared for a few of the Christmas present surprises on his "Neon Christmas" EP. Granted, "Snow Angels" is a little too pop for its own good. However, the acoustic guitar-picked subtlety of "O Holy Night" is truly sweet, while the steel guitar-soaked "Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!" is the exact right winter setting for Tenpenny's vocal vibrato. ...
