Prine celebration returns

Tuesday, April 8, 2025 – The Prine family will host the fourth annual You Got Gold: Celebrating the Songs of John Prine will be presented in Nashville from Oct. 9-12.

The shows will be held at Ryman Auditorium (Oct. 10, John's birthday), The Basement East (Oct. 9), The Bluebird Cafe (Oct. 9), and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's CMA Theater (Oct. 11). The week-long celebration will also include various community-focused activities and events, details of which will be announced soon.

Prine passed away on April 7, 2020 of COVID at 73.

Fiona Prine shared, "Five years without John has been both incredibly difficult and full of moments of gratitude. The love and support from my family and the work we've done at the Hello in There Foundation have kept me moving forward. I'm proud to share that we've reached $1 million in grants to 71 community groups. As we approach the fourth You Got Gold celebration this October in Nashville, I'm reminded of how John's legacy continues to inspire generosity, kindness, and love. Thank you for helping us keep his spirit alive." performances by an array of artists.

Proceeds from the week will benefit The Hello in There Foundation, which was established by the family as a way for his fan network, friends and family to celebrate his memory and generous spirit through a philanthropic commitment to community care. The foundation's mission is to support marginalized communities and individuals who are often overlooked or discriminated against.

Since its inception in 2021, The Hello in There Foundation has donated over $1 million in grantmaking. Last year's You Got Gold event raised over $300,000. Performers at the 2024 event included Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash, Patti Griffin, SG Goodman, Jesse Welles, Elizabeth Cook, Amanda Shires, Billy Ray Cyrus and Buddy Miller.

The event will showcase performances by an array of artists, paying tribute to Prine's legacy while highlighting the vibrant community he nurtured over the years.

Tickets for the Ryman Auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's CMA Theater, and Basement East shows will be available for artist pre-sale starting Wednesday at 11 a.m. central. Venue pre-sale will start on Thursday at 11 a.m. eastern. General on-sale, including tickets for the Bluebird Cafe show, will begin Friday at 11 a.m. central.

CD reviews for John Prine

CD review - The Tree of Forgiveness Mortality is very much on the mind of John Prine on this, his first album of all-new songs in 13 years. Understandably. After all, this is a man who has survived lung cancer and squamous cell cancer, the latter of which took a toll on his vocal cords. He's also had two knee replacements and a hip replacement. "All the TSA guys know me," jokes the legendary 71-year-old singer-songwriter. There are odes to the Almighty ("Boundless Love") and reflections on human limitations ...
CD review - For Better, Or Worse With "For Better or Worse," John Prine follows up his "In Spite of Ourselves" album with more male/female duets. And this one is a true A-list effort, as it finds Prine trading lines with the likes of Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves and Alison Krauss. Once again, though, Iris DeMent steals the show with the angry and sarcastic "Who's Gonna Take the Garbage Out," the same way she did with the prior album's title cut. She's a worthy sparring partner, ...
CD review - In Person & On Stage John Prine holds a well-deserved spot in the songwriters' pantheon. So, it's always a bit disappointing when a new Prine release isn't stocked with new Prine songs. After producing 7 albums between 1971-1980, he has only made a handful of albums of originals since then, although he has done a couple covers projects, the "Souvenirs" re-recordings album, a Christmas disc and now his third live album. That said, there are bountiful joys in listening to Prine performing ...
