Nelson, Young, Mellencamp spearhead Farm Aid 2009

Thursday, July 16, 2009 – Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews will be among the artists performing at Farm Aid 2009, it was announced Thursday.

Presented by Horizon Organic, the show is Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Mo. Other artists will be added to the bill. Nelson, Young, Mellencamp and Matthews are on the board of Farm Aid.

The show celebrates music, family farmers and food and will again feature local and organic foods.

For nearly a quarter century, Farm Aid has traveled the country, staging annual concerts and supporting organizations that work locally, regionally and nationally to strengthen family farms. This year, Farm Aid has received a record number of calls to its hotline from farmers in need due to credit shortages, falling prices and the sharp increase in costs of production. Farm Aid's annual benefit concert is its primary event to raise funds in support of this work.

Tickets go on sale July 25 at 11 a.m. eastern time at www.livenation.com, the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Box Office, by calling (877) 598-8703 or at participating Blockbuster stores. Tickets for Farm Aid 2009 Presented by Horizon Organic are $39 for lawn; $44, $54 and $79 for seats; and $169 for a limited number of premium seats.

CD review - Bluegrass Willie Nelson has a winner. How could it not be? It features some of the greatest songs in music history and some of the finest bluegrass players in the business. Most of all, it centers around Willie Nelson, one of the most iconic artists in the history of music, who at 90, has given bluegrass treatment to some of his favorite musical creations. Songs on "Bluegrass" include some of his most recognized, including "Good Hearted Woman" (co-written with Waylon Jennings), "On ...
CD review - Don't Know A Thing About Love Who doesn't love and respect Willie Nelson? Willie, even at age 90, could sing the phone book – perhaps he has – and it would be worth hearing. Willie's latest is a tribute to the songwriting of Harlan Howard, the dean of country music songwriters, who passed away in 2002. Howard once described country music as "three chords and the truth." Howard wrote hundreds of country hits during his career. Nelson and producer Buddy Cannon picked 10 to showcase here, ...
