Krauss + Union Station play Telluride

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 – Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas were added today to the 37th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival, being held from June 17-20 in Telluride, Col. This festival performance will be one of a very few shows for the band this year and among their first full-length sets since 2007.

This 2010 performance marks Alison Krauss & Union Station's 12th appearance at Telluride Bluegrass, beginning with their festival debut in 1989. Douglas's will mark his 26th year on the Telluride stage.

Union Station vocalist Dan Tyminski said, "I have spent a lifetime going to festivals and can easily say that no other has the splendor of Telluride."

Bassist Barry Bales said, "As an aspiring young musician growing up in East Tennessee, it was an almost unattainable goal to even attend the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. So it was truly a monumental moment in my life to experience the festival for the first time not from the audience, but on stage for one of my very first shows upon joining AKUS almost 20 years ago."

The line-up for the festival also includes Sam Bush Band, Bela Fleck, Zakir Hussain & Edgar Meyer, Yonder Mountain String Band, Del McCoury Band, Hot Rize, Telluride House Band featuring Sam, Bela, Jerry, Edgar, Bryan & Stuart, Leftover Salmon, Tim O'Brien Band, Jerry Douglas, Josh Ritter Band, Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile, Peter Rowan, Carolina Chocolate Drops, John Cowan Band, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Imelda May, Cadillac Sky, Mumford & Sons, The Drepung Monks, Sarah Jarosz and The Hillbenders.

And the same can be said for the band regarding Krauss. During the hiatus, Krauss scored a mega-hit with "Raising Sand," her collaboration with Robert Plant from 2007. At the same time, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Dan Tyminski and Dobro ...
CD review - A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection The liner notes for the new collection of songs by Alison Krauss gives notice that, unlike the last collection ("Now that I've Found You" in 1995), this one showcases Krauss alone, far from Union Station, the band that first brought her into the spotlight. She's been a recognized solo artist for a while now. There's no doubt that Krauss has traveled far from her bluegrass/traditional roots. But for anyone who needs proof of that, this collection is a good argument - she ...
CD review - Lonely Runs Both Ways Over the past decade, Alison Krauss + Union Station have created and fine-tuned an approach that can deliver restrained, moody ballads and mid-tempo songs, hard-edged bluegrass and traditional material and lithe instrumentals with equal helpings of skill and conviction. The result is one of the most distinctive and compelling sounds in popular music, a verdict ratified by a slew of awards - Krauss herself owns more Grammies than any other female artist - and invitations to join all kinds of ...
