Buck Owens' ex-wife dies
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 – Buck Owens' ex-wife, Bonnie Owens, who also was married to Merle Haggard, died Monday at 76 of complications from Alzheimer's in Bakersfield, Cal.
The two married in 1948, had two sons and separated in the early 1950's, but remained friends. She later married Haggard in 1965, the same year they had a hit with "Just Between the Two of Us" and won best vocal group from the Academy of Country Music.
Owens toured with Haggard for about a decade. They divorced in 1978. She later married Fred McMillan.
Owens recorded six solo albums and two duet albums with Haggard.

CD reviews for Buck Owens
Calling Buck Owens' holiday album "A Merry "Hee Haw" Christmas" may have made commercial sense at the time because many did (and still do) associate the Bakersfield country star with that corny TV show. Those of us that love Owens' music, though, know there was so much more to the man's music than his association with the hillbilly Laugh-in. That complaint aside, though, this album is jam-packed with wonderful, vintage Buck Owens sounds.

It was hard to find a more significant country artist through the 1960s than Buck Owens. With 21 number ones from 1963 ("Act Naturally," included here) and 1972, including a stretch of 14 in a row, Buck Owens was one of country music's biggest stars, bringing his slant on the Bakersfield Sound to stages, radio and television around the world.
In this 1988 Austin City Limits program and nearing 60 years old, Owens appears comfortable with his stature as a torchbearer. ...
