Richie debuts in second behind Madonna
Tuesday, April 3, 2012 – Lionel Richie's first country disc, "Tuskegee," is the second best selling CD in the country beyond Madonna's "MDNA."
For Richie, the showing is his highest-charting album since 1986. Richie sold 199,000 units, his best sales week since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. 2006's "Coming Home" began with 75,000 units, good for number 6 on the chart in 2006.
Billboard releases preliminary chart information on Wednesday with the charts out on Thursday.

Country music's definition has devolved to mean almost anything with slightly verifiable Southern roots, which means that Alabama-born Lionel Richie's music is about as country as anything else under the huge country umbrella.
