Richie debuts in second behind Madonna

Tuesday, April 3, 2012 – Lionel Richie's first country disc, "Tuskegee," is the second best selling CD in the country beyond Madonna's "MDNA."

For Richie, the showing is his highest-charting album since 1986. Richie sold 199,000 units, his best sales week since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. 2006's "Coming Home" began with 75,000 units, good for number 6 on the chart in 2006.

Billboard releases preliminary chart information on Wednesday with the charts out on Thursday.
