Helm receives Grammy tribute
Thursday, February 7, 2013 – Zac Brown, Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes), Mumford & Sons, Mavis Staples and Elton John will join together for a special tribute to the late Levon Helm as part of the annual In Memoriam segment on the 55th annual Grammys on Sunday night.
Current nominee T Bone Burnett will serve as musical director for this special tribute to Helm, the former drummer for The Band and solo artist. He died April 19, 2012 at 71 of cancer.
It was not clear if the performers would sing one song or a medley of Helm songs.

Time can be a funny thing. Where the passage of decades has made Bob Dylan's voice nearly unintelligible, the years have sanded some of the grit off of Levon Helm's legendary pipes. Yes, we're aware Mr. Helm has had medical issues with his throat, and don't wish to make light of his situation, but those elements have rendered his voice more smooth and supple whereas the best known versions of his songs had a little more grit at their core.
