FGL doubles up again

Thursday, August 1, 2013 – The record breaking week for Florida Georgia Line also led the duo to lead Billboard's Top Country Songs and Country Albums charts for the week ending Aug. 10.

Cruise was numero uno on the songs chart for the 22nd straight week, a record. The top five spots remained the same. Hunter Hayes was again second with I Want Crazy with Randy Houser holding third with Runnin' Outta Moonlight. Crash My Party from Luke Bryan was again fourth and Boys 'Round Here from Blake Shelton fifth.

Thomas Rhett jumped from 19 to 14 with It Goes Like This. Jason Aldean's Night Train was up six to 17. Justin Moore was at 21, up 3, with Point At You. Chris Young's new single, Aw Naw, was at 24, up 3.

On the country albums chart, Shelton's "Based on a True Story..." was second, Hayes' "Hunter Hayes" third, "True Believers" by Darius Rucker fourth and "Red" by Taylor Swift fifth.

Guy Clark debuted at 12 with "My Favorite Picture of You." Tim McGraw was at 15, up 4, with "Two Lanes of Freedom." Houser's "How Country Feels" was up three to 21. Kip Moore was up five to 23 with "Up All Night." The Statler Brothers' "Best From the Farewell Concert" was at 28, up 43.

On the Bluegrass Albums chart, Steve Martin and Edie Brickell were again first with "Love Has Come For You." The Roys debuted in second with "Gypsy Runaway Train" and third with "New Day Dawning." Steve Curtis Chapman was fourth with "Deep Roots." "Best Of Bluegrass: Collector's Edition" by Steve Ivey was fifth.

On the overall top 200, FGL was fifth, Shelton 16th, Hayes 21st, Rucker 25th and Swift 29th.

CD review - Dig Your Roots From the ribbits and Dobro on "Smooth," the lead-off song, one might think that Florida Georgia Line is eschewing its rap rock meets country past for something completely different. While at times that is true - "Smooth" has a swampy beat - Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard haven't veered so far from what brought them to the dance. For the duo of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelly, that means girls, girls and more girls plus an ultra dose of partying. That is evident from the refrain of the title track, which, of course, focuses on Friday night activities.
