Nettles splits from label, report says

Monday, August 3, 2015 – Jennifer Nettles is no longer on Universal Nashville, according to a report today in Country Aircheck.

On July 24, Nettles released the single "Sugar" (EMI Nashville) from a forthcoming release, which she wrote with Brandy Clark and Jessie Jo Dillon. Dann Huff produced the song.

In an exclusive statement to Billboard, Nettles said, "I want to thank Universal Nashville for 11 wonderful years. This change is the first step on a path I've been wanting to take. I am so excited about the next part of my journey, and I invite my fans to stay tuned." Nettles gave no further elaboration about the split.

Nettles, one-half of Sugarland, released her debut disc "That Girl" in January 2014 on Universal. Nettles put out two singles, although nothing broke for her.

Sugarland, which is on hiatus while Nettles and Kristian Bush pursue solo careers, remains on Universal.

Everything about the record screams fearlessness, whether it's in the sweet abandon of the music ...
CD review - That GIrl Fans tuning into Jennifer Nettles' solo debut "That Girl" expecting the same bouncy pop country she's become known for in Sugarland will be in for a big surprise. And while there will be some disappointed fans along the way, those with more open minds will find plenty to enjoy here. Produced by Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, Linkin Park, Adele), the record showcases a reinvented Nettles who, while maintaining her country roots on tracks like the honky tonk stomper Know You Wanna ...
