The Band Perry signs new deal, two in fact

The trio confirmed via a tweet of a story in Hits Daily Double that they have signed with UMG Nashville and Interscope in a joint signing. TBP previously released two albums and one EP on Republic Nashville.

Previous reports said the group had signed to Interscope and was forgoing country music for pop.

Universal Music Nashville head Mike Dungan said in the Hits Daily Double story, "John (Interscope head John Janick) and I have talked about working together for years now. I got a call from their manager, Coran Capshaw, telling me The Band Perry were free agents. Two minutes later, John and Aaron Bay-Schuck called me-Aaron had heard them in the studio and was blown away."

Janick said, "We connected creatively. It's rare that two companies connect on this level."

The story refuted the idea that TBP was abandoning country for pop. "This is a band," Dungan said, "that wants to stretch."

Interscope "has always blurred the (genre and format) lines, in terms of collaborations, roster, and partnerships," Janick said. "At the end of the day it's about great music, great artistry and great people. The Band Perry ticks all those boxes for us."

There was no word on when new music would be released.
