Life's So Funny (Sony, 1995)
Joe Diffie
Reviewed by George Hauenstein
Joe Diffie has a knack for writing or finding songs that are slightly different from those other artists sing. Songs that are almost tongue-in-cheek. He is certainly capable of belting out a very mournful ballad as well. This disc displays both of these skills.
You might think that with songs ranging from the first single, "Bigger Than The Beatles," "Back to the Cave," and the title track that this record would be a collection of humorous tunes. Not so. This is a straight-ahead country album with the standard collection of songs about love, loss and romance. Best songs on the album are "Bigger Than The Beatles, "C-O-U-N-T-R-Y," sort of a '90's redneck national anthem and "I'll Try," a solemn ballad about new love.
Diffie is one of the more original singers on the scene today. He doesn't write a whole lot on this album, but he does co-produce. Diffie fans won't be disappointed.
