The Very Best of Little Texas - Live & Loud (Montage Music Group, 2007)

Little Texas

Reviewed by Michael Sudhalter

The 11-cut live album lacks the energy of the original songs and the band's previous efforts. The quartet still has their trademark harmonies, but now lead singer and guitarist Porter Howell (Brady Seals and Tim Rushlow are long gone) can't match Rushlow vocally. In fact, most of the disc sounds like a Little Texas cover band.

On the rocking numbers, it's easy to forget it's not the old Little Texas, so the group turns in pretty solid versions of "Kick A Little" and "God Blessed Texas." O'Brien takes over lead vocals on several tracks, and he's especially strong on "Some Guys Have All the Love."

The band experiments with '80s rock on "Get Back," somewhat of a departure from their neo-Eagles sound that defined them during the '90s.
