Live from New York, it's Carrie Underwood
Monday, March 12, 2007 – Carrie Underwood will become the fifth country music artist to appear in the past 20 years on Saturday Night Live when she performs on March 24. Underwood will sing hits from her 5 million selling album "Some Hearts."
Underwood's career has garnered two awards apiece from the Grammy Awards, Country Music Association, 2 Academy of Country Music, CMT and People's Choice Awards since winning American Idol in May 2005. She will spend time in the studio this spring recording her sophomore album due out later this year.
Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts will host March 24.
Previous country acts on SNL were Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban.

Carrie Underwood's gospel music album may not be traditional in the sense that she sings these songs the same way she heard them as a child growing up. However, on the traditional/modern country music spectrum, this album leans closer to traditional country music than just about anything Underwood's recorded. Underwood always sings well, no matter how her songs are arranged, but it's a true treat to hear that voice without much of the big production that usually accompanies it. ...
It makes logical sense that Carrie Underwood, arguably mainstream country music's best pure vocalist, would make a Christmas album. And make no mistake about it, this is a 'Christmas' album, as opposed to a 'holiday' release. These 11 tracks are nearly all spiritual in nature. Therefore, you won't hear about Santa, reindeer or even toys under the tree.
