In Concert at Renfro Valley (Pinecastle, 2007)
The Osborne Brothers
Reviewed by George Hauenstein
The Osborne Brotheres - Bobby and Sonny - are in the top echelon of all-time bluegrass greats. This project, produced by Sonny, shows this great band at its pickin' and singin' best.
The Renfro Valley release features the Osbornes and band in concert in 1994. It's pretty much straight music, not a lot of audience banter. That's okay, as the music is top-notch, including many of their classics such as "Rocky Top," "Kentucky," "Fastest Grass Alive" and One Tear." The video production here is pretty good, with some audience shots, but mostly focusing in on Bobby and Sonny and the band, which included Terry Eldridge and Terry Smith (currently in The Grascals), Gene Wooten on Dobro and David Crow on fiddle.
