ACMs give Wallen the boot
Wednesday, February 3, 2021 – The Academy of Country Music will remove Morgan Wallen's involvement and eligibility for the 56th ACM award's cycle, the organization said today.
The decision came in the wake of racist comments the singer made on Sunday night outside his Nashville-area residence.
"We have made his management team aware of this decision. The Academy does not condone or support intolerance or behavior that doesn't align with our commitment and dedication to diversity and inclusion."
The ACM said that in the coming weeks it will "expedite" long-planned diversity training resources for ACM members, board, staff and the artist community.
"As a result of this unprecedented situation, the Academy will be reviewing our awards eligibility and submission process, ensuring our nominees consistently reflect the Academy's integrity."
The ACMs will be held Sunday, April 18.
