Chesney steps in to headline fests in wake of Wallen vocal rest

Tuesday, May 9, 2023 – Morgan Wallen's misfortune of requiring vocal cord rest resulted in Kenny Chesney extending his tour today.

Chesney's I Go Back 2023 arena tour was set to wrap May 27 in Orange Beach, Ala. But with Wallen's announcement today that he was on the shelf for six weeks due to vocal cord issues, Chesney will headline the Gulf Coast Jam on June 3 in Panama City, Fla. and Carolina Country Music on June 10

"It's like an extra little bit of something," Chesney said. "We love playing those great big stages, and I think everyone knows that. But this year, in these venues, has been unlike anything we've done in years – so much fun, so great, so spur of the moment – and I wouldn't change a thing.

"I can't lie, though. I was missing those big stages just a bit. And now, me and the road family get to have our cake and eat it, too. When we got the call, even though we were basically done, I thought it over, and of course, we wanted to be there for the fans. They're the reason we do this, and the opportunity to step in and let even more people see how white hot and awesome these players are is awesome. Funny how life has a way of stepping in."

CD review - One Thing At A Time Morgan Wallen's album, which is longer than the average movie or concert (at nearly two hours), is too long. Perhaps even a Wallen apologist would agree with that assessment. Yes, it may be possible to have too much of a good thing. Few artists can create such an epic full-length without at least a little filler. Wallen's good, but not that good. However, all the good stuff on this song-packed release is extremely good, and worthy of our attention. The hits far outweigh the misses. ...
CD review - Here and Now deluxe After a storied run including eight Entertainer of the Year awards and two Greatest Hits albums (so far), Kenny Chesney was due for a setback. This one wasn't strictly personal, as the "Chillaxification" Tour got waylaid by a pandemic shutdown that scrapped most everything. The loss really belonged to the fans, as the original "Here and Now" record Chesney was supporting was a beauty – from the stirring "Knowing You" to the snarky "Wasted", ...
CD review - Dangerous: The Double Album The buzz in the industry is that Morgan Wallen is primed to be the next big country music superstar. If prognosticators are correct with this prediction, the man fully deserves all the recognition. Proof positive is his "Dangerous: The Double Album," which is a humongous 30 songs long! It's a two-CD set. Not like a double album from back in the LP era, but a double full-length CD effort. Therefore, if you want to take a deep dive with this one, make sure you have plenty of air in your scuba tank. ...
