Butts helms "Roadrunner" video
Part travelogue, part farce, the video depicts life on the road for Butts and her band the Mules (formerly the Ass-tronauts) in adventures both real and embellished.
"'Roadrunner,' is a reflection of my journey to now, it's the convergence of everything I've ever loved: theatre, music, country and my Oklahoma roots," said Butts. "The version of me depicted in the video is much closer to what I'm like onstage, where there's real emotion and truth, but also humor and a tendency to poke fun. It's all those different versions of me at once. In making this music video, I wanted to show the highs and lows and chaotic lifestyle that I love so much."
When it came time to create her third album, the Tulsa, Okla.-born, Nashville-based musician leaned into her lifelong love of musical theater and dreamed up a modern-day reimagining of the soundtrack to her all-time favorite musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!"
The result: a concept, but autobiographical LP of 17 songs produced by Oran Thornton (Brent Cobb, Logan Brill). The track list is:
