Old Dominion delivers "Odies But Goodies"

Wednesday, August 7, 2024 – Old Dominion gathered up their hits, a few obscure tracks and fan favorites for "Odies But Goodies," coming out Sept. 6.

The 31-track collection spans the band's career.

"We all believe in the power of the song," said lead singer Mattheew Ramsey. "And taking that song out to where people could hear it, feel it, maybe even be in it. We did it for the fun, and then we realized that an awful lot of people were loving the songs. And not just the ones on the radio, but the songs that were never gonna be singles. That's when you know you've hit something."

Opening with "Coming Home," the song about returning to the one you love, Odies includes "Written In The Sand," "Song for Another Time," "Break Up With Him," "Hotel Key," "Snapback" and deep cuts including "Nowhere Fast," "Hawaii," "Some Horses" and "Still Writing Songs About You."

Old Dominion has recorded their own version of Johnny Lee's all-genre number one "Lookin' For Love," which the band performed on the 2020 CMA Awards telecast to honor the movie "Urban Cowboy."

"We love that the people who love our music love all of it," Ramsey said. "Obviously we love the songs on the radio, but some of the deeper dive stuff, that Johnny Lee song we got to perform to honor him, Mickey Gilley and 'Urban Cowboy,' all those things are as much a part of who we are as the hits. So when you listen to 'Odies But Goodies, I think you get a very good sense of who we are as a band, but also as individuals and even a sense of the people who show up for this music."

CD review - Memory Lane There are two ways to listen to Old Dominion's music. You can simply enjoy it for the feel, the lyrics, the beat...or you can study it as a master class in contemporary country songwriting and record production. Either way you're in for a treat, especially on this eight-song EP "Memory Lane." Hooks, harmonies, rhythms and feel-good images are everywhere here. Old Dominion (name chosen because four band members are from Virginia) originally formed to highlight songs that the ...
CD review - Old Dominion Old Dominion has gained a following on the heels of two albums of lively material. Their self-titled third release stays the course and delivers a dozen radio-friendly songs. The hyper positive lead single "Make it Sweet" sets the stage with an ode to the brighter side of everything. Most tracks are upbeat but, ironically, there is not an official party anthem or even a drinking song. The closest they get is "American Style," which is laden with standard innocent imagery ...
CD review - Happy Endings Right off the bat, the title of Old Dominion's album "Happy Endings" is far better than "Meat and Candy," its prior effort. ("Meat" in an album title? Really?) But also on an artistic level, OD's follow-up shows signs of growth. With that said, though, there's nothing on this new release as immediately catchy as "Snapback." Nevertheless, the vocal-only harmonies introducing "Not Everything's About You," are a beautiful thing. ...
